Welcome to Mistakes were made!

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from some truly exceptional people. Mentors who’ve challenged me, friends who’ve pulled me into big (and sometimes chaotic) things, and peers who’ve helped me figure out what kind of leader I want to be.
And on the flip side, I’ve had the chance to mentor others, and honestly, that’s been some of the most rewarding work I’ve ever done. There’s something powerful about watching someone grow, make bold calls, and build their confidence over time. It also keeps me sharp. If I’m going to coach someone through a challenge, I don’t want to fall back on nostalgia or default to conventional wisdom. I want to revisit what worked and what didn’t. What mistakes were made? What I learned. And how that learning might help someone else make their own decision, not just copy mine.
That’s the heart of this podcast and blog!
So why a podcast?
Because mentoring is powerful but temporary, people change jobs, move cities, drift in and out of each other’s orbits. With Mistakes Were Made, I want to scale that experience a little. I want to capture the wisdom and war stories of the people who’ve helped me most and share them with anyone else trying to figure this stuff out. Whether you’re stepping into your first leadership role, building a startup, or just trying to be a better human at work… I hope there’s something here for you.
This is also an excellent excuse for me to reconnect with the brilliant people I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside and to introduce them to you. We’ll talk leadership, startups, sales engineering, the art of managing humans, and probably a few life lessons along the way. There might even be a bike metaphor or two.
So if you’re reading this, thank you. I hope you enjoy what we’re building. I hope you find something useful, or at the very least, relatable. And I’d love for you to lean in: share feedback, be kind, and don’t be afraid to give me some radical candour along the way.
Because at the end of the day, mistakes were made. And that’s where all the best stories start.
